App-based primary + secondary pain prevention in musicians
Background
Performance-related pain (PRP) refers to pain that interferes with a musician’s ability to play or sing at their usual level. It is a major health problem among musicians and can have devastating effects on performance and quality of life. It is therefore important to explore and test effective prevention and treatment programmes for PRP. In this project we are developing, implementing, and evaluating an intervention in the form of a mobile app. An app intervention provides a cost-effective and scalable way to provide support for musicians’ health and allows for individual tailoring and self-monitoring.
This project is an exciting collaboration between the IMMM, the Hanover Center for Health Communication [HC]² at the Department of Journalism and Communication Research (IJK), and the Hannover Medical School (MHH). It is funded by the ‘Wissenschaftsräume’ programme of the state of Lower Saxony and the VolkswagenStiftung.
