Skill acquisition in musicians

General description

Performing instrumental music at a professional level is one of the most demanding human accomplishments. It involves the integration of sensory and motor information and requires a precise execution of highly complex physical movements under continuous auditory feedback. The neurobiological and physiological principles underlying acquisition and maintenance of sensorimotor skills in professional musicians are the focus of several research projects at the Institute of Music Physiology and Musicians’ Medicine.
